Portions of the Gulkana River were designated as part of the National Wild and Scenic River system by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980. This stunning river, ideal for Alaska river trips, is free of impoundments, generally inaccessible except by trail, and boasts unpolluted waters. The Gulkana was recognized for its primitive character, abundant fish and wildlife, and its geologic, cultural, and recreational values, making it a popular destination for guided fishing trips. The Gulkana River watershed drains approximately 2,140 square miles in southcentral Alaska. The river begins in the Alaska Range near Summit Lake and flows south into the Copper River, offering exciting opportunities for multi-day rafting adventures.

Follow in the footsteps of the Native Alaskan Inhabitants who relied on fish camps along the Klutina River. This river not only served as a vital source of sustenance but also provided access along the original prospecting trail from Valdez to the Copper River during the gold rush in the late 1800s. The Klutina River is a Class III whitewater river fed by massive glaciers in the Chugach Mountains, making it a fantastic destination for Alaska river trips. Flowing east into the Copper River, the steep gradient contributes to its reputation as one of the fastest rivers in North America. The surrounding Chugach Mountains and pristine wilderness offer solitude and scenic vistas, with plenty of opportunities to see wildlife. The Klutina is especially popular for guided fishing trips, attracting anglers in search of the big Copper River King. With its fast and cold waters, the Class III whitewater and limited access to the river keep the Klutina River exclusive and quiet, making it an ideal spot for multi-day rafting adventures.

The Copper River and its numerous tributaries drain one of the most remarkable regions of mountain, ice, and snow in North America: The Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve. This majestic river, particularly in its lower reaches, often flows at rates exceeding 200,000 cubic feet per second, while its headwater tributaries cascade down steep, rocky gorges and meander through wide, braided glacial valleys. The area spans subarctic to temperate zones within a latitude range of 60 to 62 degrees. It drains the western side of one of the world's largest non-polar ice fields, where Mt. Logan towers at over 19,000 feet, and hosts the largest collection of peaks over 14,500 feet in North America. All of this is situated within the largest contiguous protected parklands globally! Many adventure seekers embark on Alaska river trips, with the most common being the 80-mile journey from Chitina to Cordova, which typically takes 5 to 7 days. The corridor along the Copper River features few modern traces of human activity. At various points along the river, remnants of the old Copper River Railroad can be observed. The Copper River is a dynamic waterway, and due to its constant changes, the scenery, camping locations, and river channels evolve continuously from month to month, making it an ideal setting for guided fishing trips and multi-day rafting adventures.

Dutch ovens are our specialty, especially during our Alaska river trips. Cooking home-cooked meals on the river cannot be beat. We pride ourselves on preparing well-rounded, healthy meals while enjoying guided fishing trips and multi-day rafting adventures. We will be eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Breakfast usually consists of pancakes, eggs, and bacon or a breakfast burrito. Lunch is typically a cold sandwich, chips, fruit, and snacks. Dinner is where it counts: lasagna, enchiladas, steak, salmon, and salads, to name a few.
